A small, genuine effort to help parents find names that actually mean something.
When we started searching for baby names, most websites either threw an overwhelming list at us with no context, or they gave us one-line descriptions that felt copy-pasted from a dictionary. We wanted something in the middle โ a site where each name had a short story, a real sense of where it came from, and honest information about what it means in the culture it belongs to.
So we built Little Bloom Names. It's not trying to be the biggest baby name database on the internet. We'd rather have 50 names written with care than 50,000 written without it.
We try to be genuinely useful โ not just comprehensive.
The real meanings behind names โ not just a single word, but a bit of context about what the word meant in its original language and how it has been used.
Names come from somewhere. We try to share where โ Sanskrit, Hebrew, Latin, Irish, Arabic โ so you know the tradition you're connecting with when you choose a name.
We cover both โ names that feel right for today and names that have stood for centuries. Filters make it easy to find whatever direction you're leaning.
Practical, non-preachy advice about how to test a name before you commit โ things like saying it out loud with the last name, or thinking about how it ages.
Every name on this site is written from scratch. We don't copy definitions from dictionaries or paste in content from other websites. We research each name, look at how it's been used across cultures and time periods, and then write a short description that tries to capture what's actually interesting about it.
We also try to include names that reflect the real diversity of families today โ Indian names from Sanskrit and regional traditions, international names from European and African roots, and modern names that have emerged in the last generation or two. No single culture or naming tradition has a monopoly on beautiful names.
We'll continue adding names over time. If there are names from a specific culture or language you'd like to see covered, feel free to reach out through our contact page.
Name meanings and origins can be genuinely complex โ the same name sometimes has roots in multiple languages with different meanings in each. We do our best to represent this faithfully, but we'd encourage you to explore further if a name is particularly important to you or if it comes from your own cultural background. Our descriptions are a starting point, not the final word.
